There are many ways to use gold leaf effectively in signage. Glass gilding, the most complex of all approaches, is prized for it’s beautiful mirror finish which reflects class and quality , catching the eye like nothing else. Often this can be combined with a matte finish for maximum visibility, ensuring the light is reflected from all angles.
Surface gilding, or oil gilding is the practice of applying gold to a surface such as a signboard on a shopfront using a special glue. This creates a bright, reflective effect which is exceptionally durable and will retain its brightness for many many years.

Another use of gold leaf that is often overlooked is the practice of covering large areas with a gild. Generally speaking, imitation gold is used for this although any type of leaf will work.
When applied correctly, this can have a completely transformative effect on a space, creating an incredible warm glow as the light hits the gold leaf.
